Sibelius' violin concerto with Augustin Hadelich

Sibelius' violin concerto with Augustin Hadelich

Grieghallen

Augustin Hadelich returns to the orchestra for this second special concert prefacing the orchestra’s European tour under chief conductor Edward Gardner.

Hadelich’s exquisitely patient and finely woven recording of Sibelius’s Violin Concerto was nominated for a Gramophone Award in 2015. His interpretation of this fire-and-ice concerto forms the centerpiece of a concert that opens with an arrangement of Grieg’s Funeral March for Rikard Nordraak.

No orchestra plays Grieg like the Bergen Philharmonic, and no composer accessed the snap-and-crackle of the early twentieth century symphony orchestra like Sergei Rachmaninoff. His set of three Symphonic Dances is an intoxicating, kaleidoscopic score that takes in soulful reflection and a sprint into the abyss. An adrenalin rush for audience and musicians alike.
