The programme includes choral works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Frank Martin, Johannes Brahms, Charles Villiers Stanford, Thomas Tallis, Ola Gjeilo, and a new work by Eva Holm Foosnæs, composed especially for this concert.
Two great choirs combine as the BBC Singers – the UK’s only full-time professional chamber choir – comes to Bergen to join in concert with the Edward Grieg Kor. Both choirs are standard bearers that have helped shape choral singing in their respective nations and proved a beacon of excellence for others.
Daniel Hyde, Director of Music at the world-famous chapel of King’s College, Cambridge, conducts an evening of music straddling the centuries with a distinct Anglo-Norwegian feel.
From the polyphony of Tallis and Bach to the Romanticism of Brahms, the striking new harmonies of Frank Martin and the meditative contemporary works of Ola Gjeilo – the Norwegian musician from Skui who has become one of the most performed choral composers in the world.
