Aulaseriene: Engegårdkvartetten and Olli Mustonen
Artists
Beethoven, Brahms and Mustonen
This year's Aulaseriene season ends with a meeting between the Engegård Quartet and one of the Nordic countries' most prominent musical personalities: Olli Mustonen.
The Finnish pianist, composer and conductor has for decades been compared to figures such as Rachmaninov and Busoni — musicians who have not been limited to just one role in the musical world.
The Engegård Quartet has a close relationship with Mustonen as a composer. They premiered his first string quartet, and a few years ago they recorded his piano quintet with Mustonen at the piano. The Strad described the recording as “carried forward with biting power, conviction and technical ease”. This Friday evening they bring this work to us.
The programme is framed by Beethoven's beautiful Harp Quartet and Brahms' dramatic Violin Sonata in D minor — with Arvid Engegård in collaboration with Olli Mustonen.
Welcome to the season finale!
