Tabita Berglund awarded the Sibelius Prize
We congratulate our Chief Conductor Designate on the 2026 Sibelius Prize!
The Sibelius Society in Norway has awarded the 2026 Sibelius Prize to conductor Tabita Berglund. She will receive the award at the Oslo Philharmonic’s concert at the Oslo Concert Hall on 8 October.
The Sibelius Society of Norway states: "In a remarkably short time, Tabita Berglund has established herself as one of the most sought-after and exciting young conductors on the international music scene. Through her artistry, she has demonstrated a rare ability to combine analytical clarity, musical integrity, and natural authority with a deep understanding of the Nordic orchestral tradition."
"Tabita Berglund is awarded the 2026 Sibelius Prize for her outstanding artistry, for her profound and compelling interpretation of Jean Sibelius’s music, and for her significant contribution to the international impact of Nordic musical culture. What distinguishes Tabita Berglund as an interpreter of Sibelius is her ability to let the music grow organically from within. She does not seek superficial effects but allows the works to unfold through an intuitive understanding of Sibelius’s distinctive musical language. The result is interpretations that are both faithful to the score and, at the same time, feel fresh, vibrant, and personal," says Stephan Barratt-Due, Chairman of the Sibelius Society in Norway.
Our former Chief Conductor, now Honorary Conductor, Edward Gardner was awarded the Sibelius Prize in 2025.
