Rasmus Hella Mikkelsen
Assistant Conductor ConductorRasmus was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in 2025. Alongside his work in Bergen, he appears as a guest conductor with the Oslo Philharmonic, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera, the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, and Ensemble Allegria. He has performed at the Bergen International Festival on several occasions, most recently in 2025.
Rasmus is currently a participant in Talent Norway’s elite programme, Dirigentforum. Through this initiative, he conducts orchestras such as the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, as well as the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, in masterclasses with prominent international conductors.
He received his conducting education through various programmes at the Barratt Due Institute of Music, where he studied under the mentorship of Alf Årdal and Eivind Aadland. He also holds a Bachelor of Music Performance from the Barratt Due Institute of Music, where he studied with Principal and Artistic Director Stephan Barratt-Due, and a Master of Music Performance from the Norwegian Academy of Music, where he studied with Professor Elise Båtnes, concertmaster of the Oslo Philharmonic. During his master’s studies, he was a scholarship holder with the Oslo Philharmonic for two seasons.
Originally from Bergen, Rasmus began playing the violin with Per Gisle Haagenrud. He has previously been a member of the Bergen Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
