Sibelius, Brahms and Grieg with an A team of soloists.

Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of principal conductor Edward Gardner introduces the concert with Sibelius’s suite Rakastava (The Lover).

Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang and Franco-German cellist Nicolas Alstaedt – both of whom perform with passion and effortless virtuosity and communicate brilliantly with audiences, are soloists in Brahms’s Double Concerto. Alsteadt may also be experienced in a Bergen International Festival solo recital.

The concert concludes with the festival’s best-loved work and the one with the longest tradition, Grieg’s A minor Piano Concerto. The soloist is the Icelandic pianist Vikingur Ólafsson, whose most recent album has recently been released. He also appears in a festival concert in Håkonshallen.

Together the three constitute a European A team that has made an indelible mark on the international classical music scene.

‘Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor became the signature tune of Norwegian national romanticism – and it can still make pop musicians weep.’ – Bergens Tidende
