We join with Borealis, Bergen’s festival for new and contemporary music, for this performance of two new works that address the season’s theme of climate change and the challenges it presents and as part of our NEXT STEPS series, we welcome academics from the University of Bergen to illuminate what we hear.

Therese Birkelund Ulvo won the Young Lindeman Prize in 2015, the same year her piano concerto Woven Fingerprints was written for the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. Ulvo’s interest in improvisation, narrative and traditional Norwegian music lie behind her engaging, thought-provoking works.

Bergen-born saxophonist Marius Neset his hot property on the jazz scene and an emerging composer who has worked with the London Sinfonietta and won a Spellman Prize for his recordings with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra. Edward Gardner and Neset himself lead the orchestra in the first performance of his new saxophone concerto, Manmade

This concert is presented in collaboration with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the University of Bergen and Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research.
