Beethoven 250 – Concert for chamber orchestra
Beethoven had already lived half his live when he came to write his First Symphony in 1795.
But he was still a young, impressionable and optimistic man full of optimism. In this charming work, the composer so famous for shocking goes no further than small acts of cheekiness – starting in the wrong key, mimicking tragedy before galloping off into celebration. Beethoven’s famous impulsiveness is reigned-in by grace and songfulness in this bijoux first chapter in his symphonic journey.
Jan Willem de Vriend returns for this next installment in our celebration of Beethoven’s 250th birthday year, bringing with him the fresh young voices of Beate Mordal and Barnaby Rea for arias and duets by Beethoven that stand between two of his most uplifting orchestral works.
