Sangerfest i Bergen
Recital with Lise Davidsen and James Baillieu
Half an hour in the presence of Lise Davidsen’s breath-taking voice is special enough. An entire evening is a rare privilege.
Following a residency last season that delivered plenty of magical moments, the soprano from nearby Stokke returns to Bergen for this recital with James Baillieu which includes music as close to Bergen’s heart as her own – Grieg’s Opus 48, six songs in German that see the Norwegian composer excelling at the German Romantic lieder style.
The warmth and glow of Davidsen’s unequalled voice feels perfect for Sibelius’s operatic Luonnotar, an incantation on Finland’s creation myth, and the contrasting darkness of his Opus 37 set, which all deal in some way with death.
Songs by Brahms and Schumann from the central European tradition complete the programme in this not-to-be-missed recital from a local artist in global demand.
