Our favourite trumpet soloist Tine Thing Helseth returns to the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and brings with her a special treat.
Suddenly the world is growing fascinated with the music of Mieczysław Weinberg, and with good reason. His music speaks of the trauma and resilience of the twentieth century with huge emotional power. Weinberg’s Trumpet Concerto of 1967 is often described as the trumpet concerto Shostakovich didn’t write. It has that composer’s sense of humour in the face of despair, and all his tunefulness and tantalizing ambiguity. Tine Thing Helseth plays the concerto here before Anja Bihlmaier takes the orchestra through that most raucous of Beethoven’s symphonies - his charmed and momentous symphonic dance, the Seventh.
