American Ilene Chanon comes from Los Angeles. She played in the orchestra for two years before joining the Gothenburg Opera in Sweden. She returned to Bergen in 1997 and has been here ever since.
Ms Chanon has a bachelor degree in Music Performance from University of Southern California and a Master’s Degree in Music Performance from Eastman School of Music in New York.
Premiering Ragnar Søderlind’s Landscapes for Horns in the anniversary year 2015 was a musical highlight for Ilene. She loved performing as soloist with the other five members of the horn section. Ms Chanon very much enjoys international touring with the orchestra and has particularly fond memories of the concert in Carnegie Hall. As well as playing in the orchestra, an important part of her life as a musician is the Bergen Woodwind Quintet.
Ms Chanon’s favourite hobby, since moving to Norway, is kayaking in the numerous beautiful fjords. She always has her alphorn with her on kayaking trips so that she can enjoy the echoes from the mountains while she blows a few notes from the kayak cockpit.
