Håkon Kartveit comes from Stavanger and joined the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in 2008. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music with professors Gert Mortensen and Wieland Welzel, solo timpanist of the Berliner Philharmoniker.
In 2005, Håkon Kartveit won 1st prize in the international timpani competition in Paris. He was soloist with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in the world premiere of Marcus Paus’ Concerto for Timpani and Orchestra in February 2015. He very much appreciates having had the opportunity to experience the Berlin Philharmoniker live on several occasions, and has enjoyed countless concerts, both as a performer and as an audience member.
Håkon Kartveit teaches at the Grieg Academy, University of Bergen, and has succeeded Wieland Welzel as professor of timpani at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
