Instrument: 1st Violin

Elisabeth Marie Svanes grew up in Bergen. She joined the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in 1987.

Ms Svanes started playing the violin at the age of seven. She studied with Henryk Kniejski in Bergen, Bela Katona at Trinity College of Music in London, Masuko Ushioda at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, and Victor Libermann at Utrechts Conservatorium in the Netherlands. 

She has a bachelor degree from New England Conservatory and a diploma from Utrechts Conservatorium as well as chamber music studies with Benjamin Zander and Eugene Lehner at New England Conservatory and Sigismund Nissel (2nd violinist of the Amadeus Quartet) from the Orlando Festival in Kerkrade, the Netherlands.

Ms Svanes performed as soloist with the orchestra at De Unges Konsert in 1978 and the following year at De Unges Kammerkonsert. In 1982 she gave a soloist soiree with pianist Einar Røttingen in Håkonshallen.
