De Unges Konsert - Young Soloists Competition

With funding from The Kavli Trust, we are delighted to be able to invite young musicians studying in Norway, Sweden and Denmark to audition for a place in De Unges Konsert 2018.

The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra has a long tradition for showcasing young talent. Since 1938, the concert has presented many of Norway’s foremost soloists like Henning Kraggerud, Håvard Gimse, Tine Thing Helseth, Truls Mørk, Vilde Frang and Lise Davidsen.

Who can apply? 
All classical music students, independent of nationality, are invited to apply for a place in De Unges Konsert. Instrumentalists born in 1994 or later and singers born in 1991 or later are eligible to apply. All applicants will be invited to audition.

The soloists are selected at auditions in Bergen, Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen. Candidates will play the piece they wish to perform at the concert. The duration of the programme may not be less than 10 minutes and no more than 15 minutes. The Orchestra will provide an official accompanist for the audition, but if you prefer, you may bring your own pianist. If your programme is not in the standard repertoire for your instrument, we ask that you bring your own accompanist. You are allowed to use sheet music.

Concert and prizes
Five successful candidates from the auditions will have the opportunity to appear as soloist with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in Grieghallen, Bergen on 5 April 2018. The conductor is Lars-Thomas Holm. The concert will be live-streamed at
The Orchestra will cover all travel and accommodation expenses for the soloists. All five soloists will receive a scholarship of NOK 75 000 from The Kavli Trust. The audience in the Hall and online will vote for their favourite who will receive the Audience Prize of NOK 20 000.
