Post-concert recital with players from the Orchestra
Beethoven was a composer who worked and lived by his own rules.
He was a free, impulsive, mysterious and even demonic figure who expressed himself in music like nobody had before him. Even so, Beethoven’s final symphony came as a shock. It was unprecedented not only in size, but also in its use of vocal soloists and a chorus in its final movement, whose voices combine to proclaim a poetic message of universal fellowship through the iconic Ode to Joy.
Edward Gardner presides over an epic conclusion to the season as four Norwegian soloists join the Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Choir and the Edvard Grieg Choir in a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth, a symphony whose message of universality and humanity has never been surpassed.
Generously supported by Stiftelsen Kristian Gerhard Jebsen
