Post-concert recital with Orchestra players in the foyer
A major new work by one of Norway’s finest orchestral craftsmen gets its first performance on home soil in this concert, as Rolf Wallin’s new Violin Concerto is performed by the outstanding violinist Alina Ibgragimova.
Either side of Rolf Wallin’s new concerto, Edward Gardner conducts dramatic orchestral showpieces. Paul Dukas’s virtuoso orchestral scherzo The Sorcerer’s Apprentice was born of total inspiration and tells a fantastical tale with thrilling orchestral colour and cinematic atmosphere.
The story of Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony was altogether more real. Some say this propulsive symphonic drama is an autobiography. Others say it is a suicide note. Either way, it is the most emotionally intense and musically robust symphony Tchaikovsky wrote and a vivid, moving live music experience.
Generously supported by Rika as, Yvonne and Bjarne Rieber
