Beethoven Violin Concerto
Thursday 18 October - Friday 19 October
Beethoven may have endured a tortured life but his Violin Concerto radiates happiness.
Isabelle Faust joins the orchestra and Robin Ticciati in this glittering song for violin and orchestra, and she is the right violinist for the job: her recording of the piece ‘infuses the concerto with a real sense of joy’ according to The Times.
Rachmaninov also found some respite from political and personal turmoil in his Second symphony. Having escaped to Dresden in 1906, the composer experienced one of the most productive periods of his career. It unlocked new emotions in the composer and delivered a symphony powered by melody that encompasses infernal whirlwinds, passionate declarations of love and heartfelt reflections of peace.
