Jan Willem de Vriend comes to Bergen to conduct one of the most extraordinary trilogies in all music: Mozart’s three final symphonies.
Nobody knows why Mozart decided to write three symphonic works in the summer of 1788. There’s no evidence the symphonies were commissioned or even performed in the composer’s lifetime.
But for whatever reason, in these scores Mozart gave birth to the finest orchestral works of his career. The symphonies weren’t just the high point of Mozart’s astonishing technique, they established a sense of struggle and victory that would be taken forward by composers from Beethoven to Mahler.
Don’t miss your chance to hear these dramatic, turbulent, joyous and propulsive symphonies in one concert.
